You will work on a first-shift schedule and contribute to the fabrication and repair of metal and steel products, using a variety of welding processes, tools, and equipment while upholding high quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding using the GMAW process to stitch weld and fully weld components and assemblies in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Fabricate and finish steel storage and shipping containers, including new fabrication and repair work, as containers move through multiple production departments on an automated conveyor system.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, rulers, and other measuring tools.
  • Read and interpret basic prints and blueprints, as well as use tape measures and other measuring devices, to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
  • Use basic hand tools and power tools such as grinders, shears, hammers, punches, drills, and other common welding trade tools to prepare and finish workpieces.

  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power welding tools, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment, in accordance with job requirements.
  • Lay out and measure dimensions and reference lines on materials, such as roofing panels, according to drawings or templates using calculators, scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers.
  • Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets to fabricate or alter parts as needed.
  • Fasten seams and joints with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal drive clips, and other bonding methods to assemble products or repair sheet metal components.
  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts using hand and portable power tools to achieve required finish quality.
  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded to complete electrical circuits safely and effectively.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts in place to prepare assemblies for final welding or finishing.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding, as required by the job.
  • Follow all safety procedures and quality standards while maintaining a clean and organized work area in the production welding environment.

Essential Skills

  • Approximately 5 years of hands-on MIG welding experience in a production or similar environment.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding using the GMAW process, including the ability to weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Ability to pass an AWS 4G welding test.
  • Ability to read and work directly from basic prints and blueprints.
  • Strong ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
  • Experience in steel fabrication and structural welding.
  • Skill in using basic hand tools and power tools such as grinders, shears, hammers, punches, and drills.
  • Capability to lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, rulers, and related tools.
  • Ability to monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
  • Experience recognizing, setting up, and operating shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
